Wait, you say? What was that last little bit? That quickly muttered, under your breath, guttural cough that almost resembled a word? Oh, I said others. You'll never hear what the "others" consisted of from that special Midnight run of Toonami, just the words "and others." For six years this phrase has haunted me as I've searched for what was, at the time, the coolest stop animation video I had ever seen. I saw it only in passing as I quietly and secretly viewed some of my favorite, and my mother's least favorite, TV shows ever; shows that aired during Toonami's Midnight Run.
It's not a music video, just a video with some hauntingly good music playing along with it. It's a pretty cool story of a... guy... thing seeking happiness and bliss in a world of gray. The other night, fed up with the memory of this video I sat down and began my hunt. At first, I had no leads other than it was on Toonami, but I endured and little by little I honed in on my prey. It
aired on a special edition of the Midnight Run, that aired on August 31, 2001 (with a repeat showing in October due to its great success). Finally, after 3 hours of grueling searching, with continual dead-ends, I found a forum post about a guy seeking the same video! Scrolling through the topic thread I found not the video but a clue of pure gold; the video's name and maker. From there it was a quick search on YouTube that led me this video. I think that's a weird video...poor guy...he gave joy to others, and ended up alone and empty. That is SO sad...and not Scriptural...and weird!!! I can see why it would haunt you to find it, though....Um...I have some options as to how you could spend 3 hours...:-)

And I thought you were doing homework all that time...
Dear Matt,
What a haunting video...from gray, to color, then the fire goes out and it is back to gray. How often do fires burn out, leaving cold and empty hearts. Those are hearts without Jesus. Thank God He is there for us. I liked the video for what it spoke to me. I'm glad I found your website.

Hi Matt -
Your grandma sent me to your site last night and I watched that video and since I am currently at the tail end of a business degree, I got it. In fact, we were discussing profit maximization and I used this video to back up my discussion response. (Here is part of my response that I had written even before seeing the video) "It is easy to see how a manager might want his/her employees to have a greater output than is feasibly possible so that he/she could have maximum profit out of their sales. But maybe this would require more hours a week to be worked than the 40 hours the person was hired on to do or maybe the manager would want the employee to give up breaks so that more products could be created. This might take time away from the worker’s family and reduce their quality of life or maybe the breaks were important to the mental or physical health of the employee. It is easy to see how profit maximization could be at odds with other goals such as worker quality of life and corporate social responsibility." In life, you will be constantly trying to balance your needs with your boss' needs. This video is showing that someday, you may be the boss and you wouldn't want to lose sight of your employee's needs as well as your own.
Love, Aunt Teresa
